January 24, 2011 – Segment 1

Scholar Lawrence Jackson joins us in the studio for a discussion of his comprehensive new survey of African-American literature between the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights Movement, The Indignant Generation: A Narrative History of African American Writers and Critics, 1934-1960. Jackson’s exhaustive look at the writers who lived and worked in that period is the first overview of the era that shepherded authors such as Richard Wright, Gwendolyn Brooks, Ralph Ellison, Lorraine Hansberry, and James Baldwin into fame.

Dr. Lawrence Jackson will be speaking at the Central Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library Tuesday, January 25th, at 7 PM.
