  1. Thank you for your thoughtful interview with Lauren Coodley on her new biography of Upton Sinclair. I have read the other biographies of Sinclair, and hers more fully develops the many fascinating dimensions of the man.

    Let’s add the story of his brave activism to the history books! As you remarked, we could use an Upton Sinclair today.

    At one point, you asked why he was lost (to mainstream history) . . . perhaps historians were uncomfortable with his stand against alcohol or were disdainful of Sinclair’s abiding affiliation with and unwavering support of women and their concerns. Merely allying with those causes could call a man’s masculinity into question and render him unworthy of coverage.
