We talk about his time in prison, his work with young men inside and outside prison, and Friend of a Friend, a mentoring project he started with American Friends Service Committee.

The premium for this hour is a copy of Eddie Conway’s autobiography, Marshall Law: The Life & Times of a Baltimore Black Panther. And also in-studio is Dr. Lester Spence!

  1. A marvelous show- Marc Steiner, Eddie Conway, Dominique Stevenson,Lester Spence on 10/13 or 14! =on WEAA. Listen to the podcast if you want a masterful summation of the problems that face Baltimore.
Eddie points out that the “news”- such as WYPR or the Sun-let alone the blatantly right wing tv and radio stations- does not represent us and steers us towards Marc’s program and the Real News website.
Dominique Stevenson points to Ferguson as an example of using the great 60’s tactics as a necessity to rebuild the 60’s organizing spirit is discussed.
The issue of such black politicians as Rawlings Blake or Obama NOT representing black folx (let alone progressive whites) is discussed- and how to bridge that gap.
Eddie points to Detroit where “putting the neighbor back in the hood” is a movement. Did you know that SPARK is actually running candidates in Detroit that represent workers and the struggle we must join?
How to engage young folx? Eddie is especially good and I’m sure all would point to Red Emma’s bookstore as exemplary in this regard.
You will not recognize me if I do not offer up any criticisms- so- does Marc have to talk so fast? (but he does have an engaging laugh!)
But overall- in a news desert (Eddie noticed the food deserts in Baltimore when he came out of Baltimore) this was news “as good as it gets”- positive news- news you can use as a tool to go forward.
Whether the issue is police brutality, prisons, republican and t party moves towards oppression- this program is the “bees knees”.
I would say- buy Eddie’s book-0 Marshall Law- and listen to the Marc Steiner program.
