June 30, 2011 – Segment 2

Today we take a look at an article published in Urbanite magazine this month that claims promoting bike-friendliness in cities brings about social change. The article cites that the murder rate in Bogota, Colombia dropped 76 percent after the city became bike-conscious. Our panel will discuss what a pro-bike culture could do for Baltimore and how our city can go about implementing a similar plan to that of Bogota.

Joining today’s discussion are:

Nate Evans – Bicycle & Pedestrian Planner for the Baltimore City Department of Transportation

Marla Streb – Baltimore native and professional mountain biker. Two time winner of the Single Speed World Championship, in 1999 and 2005

Pierre Stewart – Senior Business Development Manager at Baltimore City
