Author and historian Danielle McGuire joins us to discuss a newly released essay from a collection of Rosa Parks’ papers. The essay centers around an incident in which a white employer attempted to sexually assault the 18-year-old Parks, and adds to the complex story of Parks’ history as an organizer and activist before the bus boycott that made her famous. Danielle McGuire is the author of At the Dark End of the Street: Black Women Rape and Resistance – a New History of the Civil Rights Movement from Rosa Parks to the Rise of Black Power.
