June 10, 2009 - Hour 2
This hour, we discuss the history and legacy of I.F. Stone, one of the towering figures of US journalism in the twentieth century. Never shying away from voicing his opinion, or asking a difficult question, Izzy Stone remains a controversial figure to day. After working for a number of publications, and writing numerous books, Stone started his own newsletter, I.F. Stone’s Weekly. While it was in some ways a modest self-publication, it was full of the tireless efforts of Stone’s investigative journalism. It’s circulation reached 70,000, not bad for a one man operation.
D.D. Guttenplan is the author of a new biography on I.F. Stone, American Radical: The Life and Times of I.F. Stone. He joins us this hour.
