August 1, 2011 - Segment 1
As details from the debt ceiling compromise emerge, pundits and activists from both sides seem unhappy with the deal. Hammered out over the weekend by President Barack Obama and legislative leaders from both parties, the deal proposes cuts to defense and the general budget, no new revenues, and an automatic "trigger" of massive cuts to the Pentagon that would go into effect unless a bipartisan commission agrees on other budget cuts. Our panel today discusses the proposal, talks about the political reality that forced such a massive political battle over a formerly routine legislative matter, and speculates about where we go from here.
Joining us are:
Charles Lollar, Maryland State Director of Americans for Prosperity.
Lester Spence, Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University
Heather Booth, former Executive Director of Americans For Financial Reform
