Author and historian Bruce Watson joins us today to talk about his important new book Freedom Summer: The Savage Season that Made Mississippi Burn and Made America a Democracy. The book follows the 700 volunteers who arrived in Mississippi in 1964 to fight for civil rights. The book includes 50 interviews of the individuals involved in that struggle, as well a broader context of the events of that summer.
