  1. As a teacher in Baltimore City Schools I am in favor of the bottle tax. I will also be attending Monday’s rally. In my 4 years in the city schools, I have seen so many things that are hazardous and unsanitary. Roaches, mice, rats are common. The water is not drinkable, and in some cases, can’t even be used to wash hands. My school has broken tiles and door locks, windows that can’t be used or see out of, and gunshot holes in the walls. The heat has not worked in my classroom all year and we have had days without water. Even with that, it is place that most of the students WANT to be! It is unthinkable to expect our students to not only learn and spend extended time in these conditions, but also to EXCEL within it. Three cents per bottle is nothing compared to a safe and sanitary education for our students.
