May 6, 2010 – Segment 3

In our final highlight from this year’s Maryland Film Festival, we’re lucky enough to speak to the director and star of the film that won this year’s Oscar in the documentary short category – Music by Prudence.
The film follows Prudence, who was born in Zimbabwe with arthrogryposis, which left her unable to walk.  After a childhood of neglect from many members of her family, she attended a school for disabled children where she began to sing in the choir.  Eventually she formed a band.

Listen to hear Prudence Mabhena, director Roger Ross Williams, and producer Patrick Wright discuss the film and Prudence’s incredible journey.
Music by Prudence will screen on Friday, May 7th at 8pm in The Brown Center at MICA, and on Sunday, May 9th at 5pm in the Brown Center. Click here for more information and tickets.
