You can meet McKay and enjoy some delicious food this Wednesday, June 8th, at the first ever Breathe Books Dish and Dine at Dogwood!  First enjoy a meal with McKay at the Dogwood Restaurant, and then head down to the store for a book talk.  For more information, click here and scroll down to June 8th.

  1. I was chemically injured in 2005 by oil based paint and other renovation materials used by our son’s new Baltimore City charter school. As a result, I developed a disabling condition known as multiple chemical sensitivities. After my injury I inquired with the city board of education to see if there were any regulations regarding the types of renovation materials or cleaning chemicals that are allowed to be brought into our city schools and learned that there are not. At our son’s school, the building commmittee continued to use oil based paint for several years and at times parent volunteers brought in extremely toxic cleaning chemicals and in at least one instance, pesticides were applied during the school day. After learning that green cleaning was being implemented at city hall I tried repeatedly to contact the Cleaner Greener Baltimore initiate regarding school chemical use and never received a return call. As someone whose ruined health is proof of the dangers of chemical use I’m very disturbed at the lack of concern regarding the unhealthy environment where our chilren spend 7 or more hours of their life each day.
