The Marc Steiner Show

December 15, 2011 – Hour 1

Helicon join us for their 18th annual appearance on the show.  While they’re now living in different countries and no longer performing regularly as a band, they reunite each year for a Winter Solstice concert.

This year’s Helicon Winter Solstice concert, the 26th, will be December 17th, at  3:30 PM and 8:00 PM at Goucher College’s Kraushaar Auditorium in Towson, MD.  For information, directions, or tickets, click here.

The members of Helicon are:

Ken Kolodner played hammered dulcimer, hammered mbira, and fiddle on the show today. Ken is a world renowned hammered dulcimer player who resides here in Baltimore, MD. In addition to playing and recording music, Ken teaches hammered dulcimer and fiddle to around 70 students.

Robin Bullock, who played cittern and guitar on today’s program, currently resides in France. Robin writes and performs music from Celtic and American traditions, and plays and records in the US and Europe extensively.

Chris Norman played wooden flutes on the show today. Chris tours both solo and with the Chris Norman ensemble. He’s the founder of the Boxwood Festivals and Workshops, and now lives in Novia Scotia.

  1. Hi, Marc,
I’ve been listening to the guys’ appearance on the show for several years now. I missed tonight’s because of a mistake about the time they were coming on. I just listened to the podcast, and it only lasted a few minutes. Do you not archive the entire hour? I’m from St. Louis, and in the years I can’t make it to Baltimore for the concert, this is my consolation.
There doesn’t seem to be a way to download the podcasts so I can listen on my MP3 player, either. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks for having the guys on each year. I’ll look forward to next year’s program.

  2. Hello St. Louis,

The complete podcast is here.  I’m not sure why it cut off when you played it, but try it again.  Also, you can download and save the podcast as an mp3.  Just right-click on the file name on the page above (steiner_11_12_15_hr1.mp3) and choose “save target as” to pick where you’d like to save the file to on your computer.

I’m glad you enjoy the annual show!
