  1. Finally a place where i can comment on The Marc Steiner Show. I am able to listen but unable to call during the show.

I have had this thought in the back of my mind for well over a year. I know it is easier said than done. I know i will be unlikely to be able to help make it happen in any way. I also know that it is easier to say, “Why don’t you do this?” than to do it yourself.

Having said that i am often struck by the usefulness of some of the public two hour shows you have done specifically concerning jobs, drugs, schools, what organizations are in Baltimore trying to create and coordinate solutions. The problem is i do not think two hours is enough time to really get things moving. Sometimes it can take the better part of the first thirty minutes before people really seem to have much to say. It often ends up that the best part of the discussion begins just before the show is about to end.

My suggestion is this: Once every few months take a week, a whole week and pre-empt the national programing from 10 AM to 4 PM and bring in everyone concerned. Let each hour or two have a certain focus but let the themes overlap. Do the shows each day in a different section of the city near Mass Transportation to give easy access to people without transportation. I am willing to bet many churches and community centers would be willing to offer space.

If this were to be done i truly believe that amazing connections would be made between individuals and groups who might otherwise feel stymied in their desire to create a community in Baltimore that is supportive and life sustaining.

I believe this show is one of the best things that ever happened to Baltimore, but i also believe it has the potential to transform an entire city if it went a few extra miles every few months.

In any case, Marc, you are the best. Thank you for all that you already do.
