Today on Sound Bites we return to a subject that is at the heart of the debate over the future of agriculture: can organic farming produce enough affordable food for everyone? Starting off the show, we tour Lee Richardson's farm in Willards, Maryland along with James Adkins from the Wicomico County Young Farmers. Richardson, who grows chicken, corn and soybeans, believes that large-scale conventional agriculture is the only viable option for feeding the world's population. Cleo Braver, our guest in the second half of the show, is an environmental lawyer-turned-farmer who believes that organic farming is the best way to grow healthy food for everyone without drastic environmental consequences.

Dr. Alan Sroufe used to believe that Ritalin was as necessary for children suffering from attention deficit disorder as insulin is for diabetics. Over the last 40 years of reviewing the drugs, however, his position has changed, and he believes that these drugs are dangerously over-prescribed. Dr. Sroufe, who is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Minnesota's Institute of Child Development, joins us to discuss his research and his New York Times op-ed Ritalin Gone Wrong.

Today we're joined by journalist and political analyst Juan Williams for a look at a surprising moment in African American history. Williams joins us to discuss the formation of the all-black fighter pilot unit The Tuskegee Airmen, who fought during World War II, and why the young Thurgood Marshall, then an attorney at the NAACP, opposed the formation of the segregated unit.

Williams is the author of Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary, as well as his most recent book, Muzzled: The Assault on Honest Debate.

Yes, art can be beautiful. And yes, it can brighten communities. But can it radically transform how we relate to each other, our neighborhoods, and our economic system? Our guest today, artist and cultural planner Theaster Gates, thinks so. He restores abandoned buildings in poor, urban neighborhoods in an effort to transform them into cultural spaces and focal points for community engagement.
Theaster Gates will be speaking at 7pm this evening at Falvey Hall on MICA's campus.

A youth-led movement has, at least for now, stopped the construction of a new youth jail in Baltimore. Activists have contended the money needed for the jail would be better spend on education and other youth programs. We look at the power of youth activism this hour.

Our guests are Nicole Cheatom, Youth Organizer with the Baltimore Algebra Project, Maryland Delegate Jill Carter, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University Lester Spence, and activist and journalist Umar Farooq, who wrote this piece on the Baltimore Algebra Project for the Nation.
