We speak with Dr. Hisham D. Aidi about his new highly-acclaimed book Rebel Music: Race, Empire, and the New Muslim Youth Culture.
We’ll discuss the latest article by author, filmmaker and Coppin State University teacher D. Watkins. Called How Glamorizing Drugs Is Killing Black Kids, it discusses young people and hip hop about drug dealing.
We’ll be joined by Watkins, as well as Michelle Antionette aka LOVE the Poet, poet, performance artist, and musician; Baltimore-based rappers DDm and Dez; and Dante Wilson, CEO and founder of Reclaiming Our Children and Community Project, Inc.
We turn to the Arts, with Center for Emerging Media Cultural Editor Lea Gilmore!
First, we talk about Arena Players, the longest running continuously operating African-American community theater in the U.S., with Artistic Director Donald Owens and Assistant Artistic Director David Mitchell.
Then we discuss The Caretaker, Harold Pinter’s classic play, currently at Performance Workshop Theatre, with director Marlyn Robinson.
Finally, since May 21 would have been The Notorious B.I.G.’s 41st birthday, we will discuss his legacy with Ali Danois, Senior Editor of Bounce Magazine.
