The Marc Steiner Show
Synopsis:
Why does the ghetto continue to exist?

Harvard sociologist William Julius Wilson has spent the past twenty years trying to figure out why the poverty and desperation in America's inner city ghettos have grown since the height of the civil rights movement four decades ago. In his new book More Than Just Race: Being Black and Poor in the Inner City, he examines the reasons why so many blacks are unable to escape poverty and the ghetto. Dr. Wilson joined Marc live for the first part of hour.

If African Americans were in charge of the literary world, how would things be different? This is the question Baltimore author Felicia Pride asked in her first column as TheRoot.com's book columnist. She discussed the answers she received from authors and offers her suggestions for your bookshelf.
