The shooting last week of 17-year-old youth leader Michael Mayfield made local headlines, followed by the shooting of a 14-year-old which made the 7th teen killed in Baltimore so far this year. We start our show this morning discussing youth violence and talking about what we can do and what the city should be doing to properly address this issue. Our guests are:

  • Michael Johnson, Executive Director of the Paul Robeson Institute for Social Change;
  • Imhotep Fatiu, supervisor of the Outreach Workers and Violence Interrupters of Safe Streets Park Heights;
  • Dr. Catherine Bradshaw, professor, Deputy Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence, and Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Prevention and Early Intervention;
  • and Dara Calhoun, school psychologist at Edmonson-Westside High School and co-coordinator of Edmonson-Westside’s Peer Mediation Program.
