February 11, 2010 – Hour 1

For our first hour, we talk with feminist, sociologist, and activist Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickel and Dimed, Bait and Switch and founder of United Professionals. Tonight we talk about her latest book, Bright Sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America, in which Barbara uses her experience with breast cancer as a springboard to examine the positive thinking movement and its sometimes less than positive consequences for our society. Is there a balance that can be struck between good old American optimism and living in the world with open eyes?
