Common Ground On The Hill And Green Valley Samaritan Project

BuckwheatZydecoJuly 10, 2013 – Segment 2

We take a look at the Common Ground on the Hill Festival, which is happening this weekend at the Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster, Maryland. The Festival is a weekend filled with music, dance, arts, crafts, and food, following two weeks of coursework and seminars (“Common Ground Traditions”). This year’s headliners for the Festival are Buckwheat Zydeco, CJ Chenier and Little Queenie. We speak with Walt Michael, Founder and Executive Director of Common Ground on the Hill and Artist-in-Residence at McDaniel College.

In addition, we talk with participants of the Green Valley Samaritan project who have been conducting classes at Common Ground over the past two weeks. Green Valley Samaritan is a group of volunteers in Arizona who go out into the desert to provide water for and assist migrants trying to cross the border from Mexico to the U.S. With us to talk about the work of Green Valley Samaritans are co-Founders Rev. Randy Mayer and Shura Wallin, and musician Pablo Peregrina.
